China and Malaysia Recap
Online Competition NewsAs we head to Turkey, we have a look Malaysia and China – two very closely fought races.
We couldn’t have written the story this way even if we tried! Bahrain was immense. Qualifying proved just how close top 10 was going to be. Miraculously, RS pulled it off and got pole. But the big question for 2011 is tires. How will they last? What’s the best strategy? Questions that were often asked in testing however, Pirelli were not able to answer being the new tire supplier for 2011. The start was something to behold! Ricardo, racing for McLaren this year, false started and was immediately given a drive thru by the race stewards – who this year is busier than ever.

2011 Season: Round 1

FiHS F1 2011 kicked off in great fashion like never before! All 12 race teams were represented well and the event saw 23 cars in action, the most in FIHS history. Sadly, Jeff O's car had a nagging niggle that kept him in the garage for the start. Q1 and Q2 set the story in motion as the grid's power players began to take shape. JoshJ81 set the first flying lap in Q1 but was quickly nicked by RacerScott who set an amazing sub 1.30.xxx lap time. Lion and Ricardo would not settle for a .31 and quickly followed up with mid 1.30s. The top 10 then moved on to Q2. This is where the final off season preparations meant everything and it was time to show what you got. Once again JoshJ81 set pole mark of 1.31.186 which looked good until RacerScott crossed the line a few minutes later with another staggering 1.30.954. However, Ricardo was to not be denied his glory on this day, Ricardo found that little bit in the car to eck out RacerScott with by a mere .031 "Bollocks! That's a lifetime!" Well done Ricardo! Lion_Heart, Pete, J Kim, Mat Harto, Eleanor, Stuff and Dave Carney rounded out the top 10. (DC was granted his tenth place starting spot after being cleared for some technical difficulties). The heat of Bahrain and the tension of the GP weekend could not stop the fury that was to come once the lights of the 2011 season went out. Ricardo had a "not so good start" and fell back to P3 after RacerScott and JoshJ81 passed him before T1. "I had a good start from P3, I guess Ricardo missed a gear?" JJ81 said. Pete made a great start as well and slotted into 4th nicely past Lion heart. Many battles ensued thereafter. But for RacerScott, his first race of the season was cut short with the "tech-no-bug" hitting is ECU hard and exited stage left in a hurry. At this point Pete was hunting down Ricardo and JJ81 just waiting for anyone of them to make the mistake. It didn't take long as JJ81 seems to nudge's Ricardo's left rear and sent him spinning. JJ81 did the sporting thing and waited on him to retake the position. But doing so, allowed Lion to get past and Ricardo found himself duking it out with a new contender. All the while Pete was just settling into a comfortable pace and carrying on to the season opener win. Surely making a statement down the paddock that part timers can be competitive to. How true, how true sir.

The 2011 F1 mod is here.
Online Competition NewsAfter beginning work last season, and getting test drives from various members of the league, the 2011 F1 mod is now a reality. The cars have this years paint schemes. The physics have changed to try and match what the real guys have. If the last add-in works as expected, we will have KERS and forced two tire compound in effect. Some preseason races will make this clear. Here is the official thread: 2011 Mod Thread

Learn the basics of rFactor telemetry
rFactorIf you are like me, you want to find out what you can do to improve your lap times in rFactor. Driving around doing laps just doesn't seem to get you anywhere. You need to do what the pros do. Check out the TELEMETRY and see what is really going on. Luckily, there is a way to do that with rFactor. Check out this thread for an on going discussion about using a plugin and the Motec telemetry software. Motec Thread

The 2011 F1 Mod testing has begun !
Online Competition NewsEven though the 2010 season has just ended, we are already testing out the mod for 2011. It will try to emulate the rules mandated by the FIA for the real F1 season. New tire compounds. Weight balance limits. In early testing, we believe we will have more grip, over all, than our last seasons mod, and this should contribute to a more competitive season for everyone. Check in the forum for the on going details.
