Cockpit Madness, Part 2 (with video!)

Post by Ultimo_Posto » Thu Apr 27, 2006 9:55 pm

Image
12 happy little screws hold the Momo Racing pedals together, 4 of which are hidden under the rubber feet

Image
Inside, you can see how cheaply it is made. Note the two lead weights, proving that ballast is a fact of life :P

Image
The accelerator has 1 spring while the brake has 2. I removed the second brake spring because I will be installing the pedals upside down,
and so the brake and accelerator will be reversed. Breathe on this contraption and it flies apart

Image
Bolts are now in place to aid in mounting the pedals

Image
Pedals and pedal board mated

Image
After much experimentation with position, pedals finally installed in the foot well

Image
Cutting out the door shape for easier entry

Image
View from the seat

Image
Note the additional holes for different pedal positions

Image
Keyboard on shelf; a trackpad pointing device is used instead of the mouse

Image
Not much room to swing a dog

Image
4am and we're finally up and running

Image
Powder the cat approves

Still to do:

- Route the cables properly

- Paint it

- Install speakers

- What else?

I've got so much talent, I don't bother with practice. I'll just show up and win.

Then let me be the first to congratulate you on a dominant victory. Of course if you don't win, you'll look like a fool right? I mean there's no way you should lose.

I'm too lazy to have a dominant victory. A dominant victory sounds like hard work.

Did I mention that I think your nuts? Oh a talented, hard-working and courageous nut; but a nut nonetheless. :P

Earlier, I wrote:A design goal is to have the seat fold down inside the box...so that we can cover the whole thing and hopefully disguise it as furniture when not in use

There is a lid that covers it and it is very sturdy. When we aren't using it we will push it over to the window, throw a tablecloth and some pillows on it and viola no one will be the wiser. So yes I would say the design has been meet. And what wife/partner/girlfriend could ask for more.

It is interesting that I have people asking me "are you going to let him leave it there?". From friends to my mother-in-law. I find that such a funny question. I mean if I planted a huge ass knitting machine in the middle of the living room, El Ultimo wouldn't say a thing, nor I truly believe would anyone else. That isn't fair I'm not the only who works 14hr days to keep a roof over our heads, so why is it fair that I be the only one to park anything in the living room. Oh trust me would I prefer it wasn't in the living room. Hell yes!. Only because it is going to be ackward moving it about and I know it will get damaged. Am I embarrassed about it? Hell no. I love it. El Ultimo has done a great job. And besides so far there hasn't been a soul, male or female, who has come in, that hasn't taken it out for a test drive. ::): Once our next set of guests leave then we will move it to a more permanent area. The guest room. :D

My mother-in-law said that I surely was the best and most patient wife (yes you did read that correctly) and then 5mins later while talking to Michael she subtly suggested that he move it. :-) I guess she must think I'm a wee bit weak. Oh well. :D

AH. The REAL MLP has weighed in. Maybe I'll have the REAL Mrs W post, since L_P seemed to speak to her.

I have a coffee table that the top swings up and to one side, so it becomes one long TV tray for those onthe couch. Perhaps that would be ONE way to do it.
