New computer build

Post by JohnW » Fri Jan 17, 2014 6:31 pm

I have all the parts in hand to build a new, rFactor 2 capable computer. The only things I am using from my current computer are the power supply, which is fairly new and the video card, which is also pretty new. I have older parts to put back in the old one, so it will still be a viable Windows XP box. I need it running at least long enough to figure out how to transfer licenses for Photoshop, Anti-Virus, MS Office, and rFactor 2. I'll post some spec and benchmarks when I am done.

Case: Cooler Master HAF 922 ( Lots of big fans )
MB: Gigabyte GA-Z77C-UD3H
CPU: Intel i5 3350P ( Didn't need cpu video control so I saved some cash over the other i5s )
Memory: 8 Gig of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
HD: 1 TB WD Black 7300rmp 64mb cache

It all went together fine and I only had to get creative with the keyboard and mouse during the install. Some of the USB ports are not active until you install the drivers. I had a PS/2 keyboard to use until then.

The one thing that is something I need to "fix" is that the case fans, all 3 of them, are 3 pin and the MB outputs are 4 pin. That means I can plug into the MB for fan power, but I can not control the RPMs of them. The case is kinda' noisy right now ! They all run at full speed.

Hello
What about the fan connections on the power supply are they four pin and fan controllable ?

In gaming cooler is always better MHO

the fans that are blowing on you can they be turned around to intake and the others to exhaust then you will not have a cold leg. :D

Ruben,

I think the primary leg freezer is the top fan, 200mm. It's an exhaust fan.

I'm going to build a fan controller. I might get one of the cheap ones from some place and gut it to put in my own parts, or upgrade it. They almost all have too many bad reviews about cheap parts, even when they cost $40.

Cool!

As long as the hole spacing is not going to cause the potentiometers I buy to bang into each other, that would work.

Furmark score:( 1920 X 1080 Test )

1512, 25fps, ATI Radeon 7850

Previous score:

1078 points, 17fps. ATI Radeon HD 5770

So, that's just about a 50% increase.

If you can find it, great. If not, they don't cost much.
