2018-19 off season ?

Post by JohnW » Wed Oct 24, 2018 5:27 pm

If anyone has an interest in racing over the winter, prior to the preseason stuff that Janos will be hosting, throw your ideas here.

I know Glyn really liked the McLaren that just came out a few weeks ago. I'm open to any vehicle type, really. I hope to get some new visitors to the site and try and get more drivers for next year. I wish there was a way to check popularity of mods in the selection process on the Steam web site.

Open wheel ? Sports cars ? Karts ?

Boring but helpful car setup clinics ?

Hot lap competitions ?

Tried out some cars this week. Historic F1 and some sports cars. 1970s SCCA , Honda Civic, Nissan GT-R, and a few others. The older sports cars have a lower top speed, so races would have to be fewer laps, or on shorter tracks, I think. At least tracks with out a LONG straight. The newer sports cars have a more modern feel and less visibility, but the do have a lot more grip.

If you have an idea for a car, let me know. I'll try to pick one before the end of the F1 season.

Janos has a server up that will allow all three of the newly released McLaren cars and a forum topic about it. The server is SRH-FiHS. Get on it and try out the cars.

Based on the default setups, I like the M23 and the MP4/8 better than the MP4/12 or what ever the newest one is. The engine sound is annoying and it has as many setup choices as the modern cars, which would help the real "engineer" drivers and confuse the rest.

Classic F1 sounds fun. Nissan GT-R are also pretty aggressive and fun for a cars.

I have always enjoyed Bathurst. Mt Panorama would be cool in VR also. But I am not sure the track is DX11 yet. The GTR500 or The McCLaren or any Open-Wheel , our current mod, would be my choice. Teamspeak meeting with Setup help and a Fastest lap challenge. Then reverse the grid for a fun race later. Just an  to start a discussion.

Good ideas.

I'm about to throw a Vintage McLaren on the server. I was thinking of using a new-ish release of Watkins Glen. Got to get some tips from Jeff on making a "vmod" to allow the server to host the pair.

OK,

I have the McLaren M23 and Watkins Glen on the server. The car and track are here:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/365960/workshop/

They should be up at the top of the list, as they are pretty popular. I chose this car because it is vintage enough to sound and feel different than we are used to , but modern enough to drive with grip, as apposed to the 60s cars that you had to learn to hustle around corners. That means it doesn't take lots of time to come to grips with. ( Pun included at no charge )

I want to get a fun race or sprint races in the books before Christmas to get the Winter stuff underway. Does anyone have a day of the week they would prefer ?
