The Vintage F1 Series for 2019

Post by JohnW » Thu Mar 14, 2019 5:36 pm

APR 07 - Round 1
APR 21 - Round 2
MAY 05 - Round 3
MAY 19 - Round 4
JUN 02 - Round 5
JUN 16 - Round 6
JUL 07 - Round 7
JUL 21 - Round 8
AUG 11 - Round 9
AUG 25 - Final Round (10)

Here is the 1986 F1 Schedule.

4.2 Race 1: Brazil*
4.3 Race 2: Spain
4.4 Race 3: San Marino (Imola, Italy)
4.5 Race 4: Monaco*
4.7 Race 5: Belgium*
4.8 Race 6: Canada*
4.9 Race 7: Detroit (USA)
4.10 Race 8: France*
4.11 Race 9: Britain*
4.12 Race 10: Germany*
4.13 Race 11: Hungary
4.14 Race 12: Austria*
4.15 Race 13: Italy*
4.16 Race 14: Portugal
4.17 Race 15: Mexico*
4.18 Race 16: Australia

Other than Detroit, all the tracks are well known. Germany was Hockenheim.
I would suspect it was the LONG simple one in the forest, so it would be cool if someone has that one.
Austria was Österreichring which is now the RedBull Ring. Portugal is Estoril, which I think is available.

So what is your pick for the 10 races ?

All these tracks are available in the F1 1988 mod - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =835266682

Except:
Britain Brands Hatch
Austria Österreichring

And I'm pretty sure they're all the same layout as they were in 1986.

Just in case anyone is unclear about which cars we will be running...

I'm going through the tracks in the F1 1988 Series that Bill mentioned. If they all look good, the easiest thing may be to just download that series too and we just use the tracks from it.

I just gave a bunch of the F1 1988 tracks a few laps. I would vote we use them. For one, it's ONE download for all the tracks we need and ...they are the 1988 VERSIONS of the tracks. Say hello to armco instead of sand traps. Taller curbs. Tracks that are what we know but then again, different. Some of no chicanes where we expect them and if they do, they are often TIGHT ones. Hockenheim is NOT what we race now. It's the one that loops around in the forest with 3 chicanes and then comes back to a "stadium" section.

I would highly recommend anyone wanting to have input on the tracks, to give these a run. Let me know.

I just gave a lot of those tracks a few laps and vote we use them also. Should be fun, and very challenging! A lot of throttle control with those beasts!

The track for Brazil is not the one we know. But there isn't what we could call a real slow corner in the mix.

I've decided what track to run. Note the asterisks by them !

I do reserve the right to insert a modern version of one of those track, if in testing, we find some feature would mess with the fun of the event. Such as...I drove the 1988 Monaco, and it is the same, but closer walls and the corner at the end of the tunnel did ding me for cutting the track, but I didn't feel I did. So, we will have to take that corner with more caution than we would in modern versions.

It would take not much more than a butterfly flapping his wings at Ruben's house to make me swap Imola for Monaco. It's a tight version of Monaco ! The chicanes at this version of Imola are tight too !

What time for race starts ? At SRH, their poll showed a preference of sometime between 2pm and 6pm. I think 60% said 6pm.

For me between 3:00 & 6:00 would be great.

Is it going to be practice qual then race , I would think this should be.taken into consideration also.

I think the goal is a FUN series, so the race length will but 1 hour ( or how many laps in takes to go about that. ) Just a Qual and a Race session.
