Zandvoort 2017

Post by JohnW » Tue Apr 21, 2020 6:44 pm

I'm going to put the newest Zandvoort track on the server for a few days so you can all try it out. If there is a newer one, as I've heard their could be, let me know where you found it.

The track is in the Steam Workshop. Zandvoort 2017.

It's on the server and ready to try. I just put a "heavy" preset for the real road.

As a follow-up to Zandvoort, I would like to hear some suggestions of tracks we could use, if this one is not workable. They should be rather modern tracks.

The easy thought would be Magny Cours. But I am open to anything raceable.

John,
I've wetransfer'd the latest files I have for this track, from the FSR server. These are the files I sent along to Janos. It's a longer version with better flow. Sorry I didn't think to send those files earlier.

Fun track but very tight, little room to pass and i see a lot of contact.

The loaded layout is a very short lap. Under 1 min laps. I understand there are a few layouts included with this track. Can you try changing it to a longer layout?

Yes too short as is. Longer version would be more of a challenge. I like the track I think it is wide enough. Drs everywhere in practice again.

I chose the one called GP. I'll double check.

I will take a look at the one Rich posted about, too. Newer and wider is betterer.

I removed the other layouts from the list. It should just be the GP track.

This longer layout is cool except for the DRS issue. 8)
The FSR version has DRS only in designated areas, or maybe that's what the mod file does? Not sure.

Alright here is the easy or tricky part. To install the FSR version you may have to do some manual stuff or some rF2 magic happens.

I put the rfcmp file in my packages folder and put the Zandvoort 2017 in there too. Launched the sim. Installed the 2017 and saw nothing else to install and as if by magic it installed both. My locations folder shows Zandvoort 2017. When you go inside the folder I see 2 folders ver 1.07 and ver 1.07fsr.

Here is the FSR update file.Zandvoort FSR Put it in your packages folder and see if there is a Zandvoort to install in the sim. Hopefully, there is .

If not, you can install manually. Here is a link to a folder.
Install Folder
Click on that and you will see an index containing 2 files. I should just use the zip file Rich sent me, but let's see how this works for you.

Click on each file and download it
Browse to your rfactor/installed/locations/Zandvoort 2017 folder
You'll see one folder called ver 1.07 in there. ( If you see ver 1.07fsr...STOP. You already have it )
Make a new folder under it and name it, you guessed it, ver 1.07fsr
Copy the two files you got above into it. You're done.

The Zandvorort 2017 full with chicane is the one. I believe Janos is fixing it up on SRH for race next week .

I race whatever the group decides to race, but I am not overly excited about this one. No place to pass or be passed except for the front straight and a bit in the back straight right before the chicane.

Let me load the FSR layout and see if it's any better.

OK, the GP with Chicane, which is supposed to be the FSR version is up.

Same track, same everything with the addition of a darn chicane, which to me makes it even worse. Sorry for being a downer :-(

I like the flow of the track without the chicane, but I think the extra brake zone will allow for more overtaking. Nice track. Very busy. I believe there will be DRS on all the time even in race mode. We may need to wait for Janos to fix that.

That particular chicane really spoils the flow, imo. The track is wide and affords plenty of overtaking opportunities without it. I sure hope we don't end up using it.
