2020 F1 Season: Round 5

Post by JohnW » Mon Apr 27, 2020 7:29 pm

Zandvoort:

Fancy graphic coming soon !

I checked the weather for Zandvoort for Monday. 19 degrees C. So, it will be cold. Maybe the engine and brake ducts can be smaller ? It looks like it was set to be 72 laps, so that's what our server is set for. I still feel the real track with be different than what we have to work with, but... it's what we have.

I think SRH is 71 Laps, not sure if that matters. Might have to save much more fuel.

Server changed to 71 race laps.

I also changed it to UserAutoSave on real road for Practice and Progressing on Qual and Race.

Thom just let me know Zandvoort is now available , for free, in the Workshop. Since I had subscribed to the 2017 version, I got the 2020 one when I fired up rF2. I suspect you all have too. I'm gong to load it on the server. Yep, I should not change tracks with a bit over 24 hours to the race, but the writeup makes it sound better. Since it's the same track, but improved, it should not adversely effect anyone.

Note: it's cold in the Netherlands. The high today was 14c. I set the track to 15. I think I had the previous at 19c. If it's too cold to get grip, let me know.

There is a possibility that the 2020 track may not be our choice. It is pre-production release.

Otto found that his car , set low, found a hidden bump in the curbing and crashed his car. Raising it a bit looked like it may have fixed it. We're not sure if the DRS zone is working or if DRS is on the whole lap. The track also allows all 5 compounds. I can work with that last one by stating that only compounds 1, 2 ,5 are allowed or some other combo. I'll ask Janos what three he allowed. The other two may be problems. I can switch to the other track very quickly.

I need people to get on the track and try it. I would like to make the call by 5:30pm on Monday at the latest.

There is a nasty hidden something about half way down, the last curbing on the track, before the banked corner that leads to the S/F line. Driving purposely so, it doesn't do any thing. At race speed it will end your race. If you don't use that curbing as part of your line, you're safe. This is something we need to discuss.

With testing, we found that DRS is always on in all sessions BUT the race session. The it works properly in two zones.

I sent a message to Janos about what tire compounds he ran, and I will require that everyone stick to those choices. If you use a wrong compound, I will know, and I will DQ you.

If these conditions are acceptable, then we will use the 2020 version. If some feel the risk is not worth it, we will probably revert back. I need everyone to do laps on the track, which is better in view and layout than the previous one, before you vote.

Track looks good so far to me.

On the SRH server under tuning it looked like the C2/C3/C4 tires were used there.

You changed track the day before the race... I may not make it then, no real clue as to what I need to install.

Go to the workshop and subscribe to it. I got it just because I was already subscribed to the 2017 version.
